General Motors Co. captured three of this year’s six Autonomy+Mobility Awards, which are presented by Automotive Design & Production and AutoBeat Daily.
Now in their second year, the awards recognize advances in autonomous vehicles and personal mobility in terms of their impact on consumers and the transportation industry.
GM won for Overall Achievement, reflecting its advances in self-driving vehicles, connectivity, alternatives to conventional car ownership and more. GM’s fast-growing Maven mobility services unit captured the Mobility Deployment category. And GM’s Cadillac CT6 luxury sedan won the Vehicle category. Judges cited the car’s smooth integration of multiple driver assists, including GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driving and driver monitoring system.
Robert Bosch won this year’s System Development category. Velodyne Lidar captured the Technology award for its “Vekarrat” 3D lidar sensor.
Brandmotion, a Southfield, Mich.-based maker of aftermarket rearview cameras, parking sensors and blind spot monitoring, won the Aftermarket category. Last year the company won the 2016 SEMA Pro Manufacturer of the Year award.
The Autonomy+Mobility winners were selected by a panel that included editors of the awards’ two sponsoring publications along with John Waraniak, vice president and head of vehicle technology for the Specialty Equipment Market Assn.; and Brett Smith, assistant director of manufacturing, engineering and technology for the Center for Automotive Research in Ann Arbor, Mich.
