Former Nissan Motor Co. Chairman Carlos Ghosn has offered to surrender his passport, wear an electronic monitor, reside in a guarded apartment and post his Nissan shares as collateral in a new bid to win bail.
His previous petition for bail on Jan. 11 was rejected by a Tokyo court that cited Ghosn as a flight risk who might attempt to tamper with evidence. He faces a trial this summer on charges that he understated his Nissan compensation by $82 million and transferred personal currency trading losses to the company. Additional indictments appear likely.
To win bail, Ghosn also is pledging to meet daily with prosecutors and says he is determined to appear in court and defend his innocence.
