Germany’s transport ministry says it will decide whether to hold a formal hearing into the possible use of illegal diesel emission control software in the Mercedes-Benz Vito van.
The emissions profile of the Vito is under examination by KBA, the country’s motor vehicle authority, WirtschaftsWoche reports.
Daimler AG acknowledges it is in technical discussions with the agency about emission levels for about 1,000 diesel Vito vans, Reuters reports. Sources told Bloomberg News nearly a year ago that prosecutors in Stuttgart were looking into possible diesel emission cheating by the company.
Last April Mercedes agreed to recall and adjust emission control software in 247,000 diesel-powered vehicles in Europe. The update was part of a broader recall of 630,000 vehicles that included models from Audi, Opel, Porsche and Volkswagen.
