Germany’s transport ministry dismisses a report that certain Volkswagen Group gasoline engines could be rigged to raise their fuel economy ratings.
Bild am Sonntag says that software could modify the behavior of the transmissions used in the powertrains to artificially lower their carbon dioxide emissions during tests, thereby elevating their fuel efficiency results.
But the ministry and VW agree that the issue has been studied and dismissed by the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), which found no indication of fraud.
