New-car sales in Germany grew 3% to 3.44 million vehicles in 2017, reports KBA, the government’s vehicle authority.
Deliveries dipped 1% to 254,000 units in December, but only because there was one less selling day than in December 2016.
KBA says German demand for diesels last year slid more than 7 points to less than 39% of the total market. Gasoline-fueled vehicles gained 6 points to capture 58% of all sales. The sales pace accelerated for hybrids (+76% to 84,700 units), plug-in hybrids (+114% to 29,400) and all-electrics (+120% to 25,100).
Last year’s top selling brands in Germany were Volkswagen (+18% to 634,300 units), Mercedes-Benz (+10% to 326,200), Audi (+8% to 283,200) and BMW (+8% to 261,900).
