Ford Motor Co. warns it could end manufacturing operations in Britain if the U.K. ends up exiting the European Union this month with no new trade deals in place.

Ford Motor Co. warns it could end manufacturing operations in Britain if the U.K. ends up exiting the European Union this month with no new trade deals in place.
Without measures to avoid supply line disruptions and new tariffs, Ford of Europe Chairman Steven Armstrong tells Reuters, Ford will “take whatever actions we will need to take to protect the business.”
Ford makes no cars in the U.K. But its engine plants in Bridgend and Dagenham supply a combined 1.3 million engines per year to the company’s factories in continental Europe, Turkey and the U.S.
Armstrong says Ford has been stockpiling engines in Europe ahead of temporary disruptions expected even if the U.K. makes a smooth transition out of the EU. He emphasizes that the carmaker has made no long-term plans for its manufacturing activities in the U.K. pending Brexit.
