Ford Recalls 442,300 Cars for Steering, Overheating Problems

Ford Motors Co. is launching two safety recalls in the U.S., Canada and Mexico to repair electrical and insulation problems on 442,300 cars and crossovers.
The larger campaign involves a loose electrical connection in the steering systems in 422,800 of the company's 2011 Mercury Milan midsize sedans, 2011-2012 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ midsize sedans and 2011-2013 Ford Taurus large sedans and Flex large crossovers and Lincoln MKS large sedans and MKT large crossovers.
The problem could cause the power steering assist to stop working intermittently. Dealers will either upgrade the system's software or replace the steering gear.
Ford also is calling back 19,500 of its 2015 Ford Mustang sport coupes equipped with 2.3-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engines. Ford says the exhaust system could overheat the underbody and degrade the fuel lines, fuel tank and parking brake cable seals. Dealers will add thermal patches and thermal wraps on various components and replace the current fuel tank shield with one that provides better insulation.
