Ford Gets in Sync with Waze Navigation

Ford Motor Co. says it will be the first carmaker to integrate Alphabet Inc.’s Waze navigation capability into its vehicles.
Starting this year, motorists will be able to view the real-time navigation feature directly on the central display in any Ford vehicle equipped with the carmaker’s Sync 3 infotainment system.
Once a Waze-enabled smartphone is plugged into a USB port, users can interact with the feature via voice commands or in-vehicle touchscreen. Ford says the system is compatible with Apple and Android phones.
Waze allows users to share and verify traffic information with other subscribers. A vehicle’s speed and location automatically are fed into the Waze database, and motorists can provide real-time updates about congestion and the presence of police and other emergency vehicles. New features include information about car pool lanes and directions to nearby gasoline stations with the lowest prices.
Waze (formerly Freemap) was founded in Israel in 2013. Alphabet/Google acquired the company in 2013.
