Ford Motor Co. has been given permission to operate four minibus shuttle routes in London.
Customers will use Ford’s Chariot mobile app to book and pay for rides along the fixed routes, which connect existing train stations and subway stops.
Ford acquired Chariot Transit Inc., a San Francisco-based private shuttle service in 2016. Now a Ford subsidiary, Chariot provides similar van-sharing services in California, New York, Texas and Washington. Specific routes typically are determined by demand and rider location.
Ford’s research says every variable-route shuttle deployed during rush hour can reduce traffic congestion by 25 vehicles.
