Ferdinand Piech, the Volkswagen AG who left in 2015 after losing a power struggle with CEO Martin Winterkorn, has testified to prosecutors about Winterkorn’s involvement in the carmaker’s diesel emission cheating scandal.
Investigators continue to probe Winterkorn’s possible role in the cheating scandal, which affected some 11 million diesel-powered vehicles sold worldwide since about 2009.
Reuters notes that prosecutors in Braunschweig said last week they were trying to determine whether Winterkorn knew of the cheating earlier than he claims. Winterkorn’s attorney says he became aware of Piech’s testimony early this week but doesn’t know what the ex-chairman said.
