Chrysler Group LLC has been ordered to investigate a "relatively high risk" of fire for its imported Jeep Wrangler SUV by China's General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.
The agency also advises Wrangler owners to remove flammable material from their vehicles and check the chassis and engine compartment for problems.
Chrysler has advised customers to clear undercarriage debris from their Jeeps after extreme off-road driving and to avoid parking on dry grass following spirited driving. The company says it has been offering to clean the underbodies of Chinese customers' Wranglers for the past three years.
The government order does not specify which model years are involved and does not indicate a cause for the fire risk.
