New-car sales in Italy rose 3% to 177,800 units last month, according to the country’s Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.

Sales by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV advanced 1% in January. Strong demand for the group’s Alfa Romeo and Jeep brands offset declines by the company’s Fiat and Lancia brands, Automotive News Europe reports.

PSA Group, including the Adam Opel unit it acquired last August, led sales among foreign companies with 28,600 deliveries. Volkswagen Group followed with 24,500 sales.
