BMW AG estimates that it’s upcoming i4 electric sedan will have a 600-km (373-mile) driving range on the European cycle.
Conducted near the Arctic circle, the tests allow BMW to evaluate the EV’s electric motors, batteries and suspension components in extremely cold conditions. The company also released the first official images of the i4 (pictured), albeit heavily camouflaged, in conjunction with the tests.
The iX3 will debut next year as a rival to the Tesla Model 3 EV. Based on the conventionally powered X3 model, the electric crossover will have a 400-km (250-mile) range and will be compatible with 150-kW fast-charging systems.
The i4 and all-new iNext SUV/crossover are expected to follow the iX3 launches in 2021. The i4 will share styling cues with BMW’s current 3 Series and next-generation 4 Series cars. The company says the electric model will be capable of sprinting from zero to 62 mph in four seconds on its way to a top speed of about 125 mph.
The iNext will be a stand-alone EV. Key features will include a 600-km range and Level 3 autonomous driving capability, according to BMW.
