Audi AG has built a fully operational life-size version of its Vision Gran Turismo video game car for use as a support vehicle at Formula E electric vehicle races and other select venues.
Dubbed the e-tron Vision Gran Turismo, the concept is an all-electric coupe with a design inspired by Audi's 90 IMSA GTO race car of the late-1980s. This includes the car’s red, white and gray color scheme.
Power comes from three electric motors (two at the rear and one at the front) with a combined output of 804 hp. Audi says the 3,200-lb racer can rocket from zero to 60 mph in less than 2.5 seconds. A detuned version of the powertrain will bow in Audi’s e-tron electric crossover vehicle later this year.
At the Formula E events, the e-tron Vision Gran Turismo will be driven by former race car drivers Rahel Frey and Dindo Capello. The vehicle also will be equipped with the latest version of the Gran Turismo video game for riders to play.
