Volkswagen AG's Audi unit has added 12 extra shifts to the first-quarter production schedule at its assembly plant in Neckarsulm, Germany, Bloomberg News reports.

Audi tells the news service that the extra shifts will hike the factory's quarterly output of A6 and A7 large cars by 2,600 units to meet strong demand. Bloomberg notes that robust sales of the brand's luxury cars are among the few exceptions to Europe's persistent auto slump.
