Apple Inc. has expanded the number of registered self-driving cars in its California test fleet to 27, Bloomberg News reports.
Apple received permits last April from the state’s Dept. of Motor Vehicles to test a trio of Lexus RX450h hybrid crossovers on the state’s public roads. The new batch of DMV registrations are for the same model.
The company reportedly abandoned plans in 2016 to produce entire autonomous vehicles under a program code-named Project Titan. Apple is believed to now be focused on developing the software platform necessary to operate them.
