Amazon.com Inc. may acquire a stake in Indonesian ride-hailing service Go-Jek Group, sources tell Reuters. They say the talks are in an early stage.

Go-Jek, which was formed in 2010, is battling regional leader GrabTaxi Holdings Pte. Ltd. over the southeast Asia market for on-demand car and motorcycle rides. Grab controls two-thirds of the ride-hailing business in Indonesia, and it is spending $250 million to expand such operations as food and medical supply deliveries.

Last year Go-Jek expanded into the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. In July, the company attracted an unspecified investment from Mitsubishi Corp. and Mitsubishi Motors Corp. to help it add ancillary services.
