Plymouth, Mich.-based seating giant Adient plc has broken ground on a prototyping and testing facility in Pune, India.

The new center, which is due to open late next year, will provide physical testing to complement the capabilities of Adient’s existing technical center in Pune. The supplier, which was spun off from Johnson Controls Inc. last year, is investing $30 million in the site.

Boasting full-scale prototyping, testing, and trim capabilities, the new building will house a hydraulic acceleration sled test system with a high-speed video analysis. A 6-axis shaker table with a semi-anechoic chamber will be used for noise, vibration and harshness analysis and road durability testing.

As part of JCI, Adient launched its operations in India in 1995 through a joint venture with Tata Automotive Components. The Pune tech center, which was opened in 2000, now employs about 1,000 engineers.
