Batterymaker A123 Systems LLC has acquired advanced battery technology from Fremont, Calif.-based Leyden Energy Inc. Details of the transaction were not disclosed.
Livonia, Mich.-based A123 makes lithium-ion batteries using its proprietary nanophosphate lithium ion phosphate technology. The company was acquired last year by China's Wanxiang Group Corp.
Leyden's technology enhances battery power capabilities and cycle life. The Leyden purchase covers intellectual property related to lithium titanate and non-flammable electrolytes.
A123 also will gain several members of Leyden Energy's technical staff.
