DeepRoute Ltd., a Fremont, Calif.-based startup, plans to begin testing its autonomous driving vehicle technology on the state’s public roads in coming months.

The company is the 64th to receive permission to test self-driving vehicles in California. All such vehicles must be have a backup driver onboard.

DeepRoute will equip its sensor fusion perception system in unspecified Level 4 capable vehicles during the tests. The startup says it also is developing algorithms to help self-driving cars make decisions at crossroads, select lanes and coordinate turns.

The startup, which has raised $50 million in pre-Series A funding, also plans to test vehicles in China and Japan next year.
