Three new materials for weatherstrip applications have been developed by Dow Elastomers (dow.com). The NORDEL EPDM (ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer) materials can be used in sealing applications including car doors, glass and window, and truck and hood seals. In addition to providing seals with smooth surfaces, according to Dow they have the strength, elastic and compressive properties that allow the components to meet or exceed requirements to dampen vibrations, isolate road noise and prevent wear of and contact with other components. What’s more, the materials allow part weight reduction of up to 15 percent.
