XL Buys Quantum’s Electrification Unit
Boston-based XL (formerly XL Hybrids), which supplies hybrid powertrain systems for commercial vehicles, has acquired Quantum Fuel Systems LLC’s electrification division.

Boston-based XL (formerly XL Hybrids), which supplies hybrid powertrain systems for commercial vehicles, has acquired Quantum Fuel Systems LLC’s electrification division.

XL will assume the engineering staff and technology assets of the business and continue to operate its Lake Forest, Calif., office. Financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.
XL also has appointed Dimitri Kazarinoff (below) as its new CEO. Kazarinoff previously held executive positions at Eaton Corp. and AVL North America. He succeeds Tod Hynes, who will remain at XL as chief strategy officer and a member of the company’s board of directors.

Founded in 2009, XL supplies OEM-certified electrification systems for Ford, General Motors and Isuzu trucks in fleet applications. The company claims its hybrid and plug-in hybrid technologies can boost fuel efficiency by as much as 50%.
Quantum Fuel Systems specializes in compressed natural gas and hydrogen technologies.
