The Trump administration plans to announce new rules on Thursday that will make it more difficult for Chinese companies to gain U.S. technologies or invest in American companies, sources tell The Wall Street Journal.
The White House also intends to roll out tariffs worth at least $30 billion on certain Chinese imports, pending comment from American companies that might be adversely affected. The figure matches the estimated damage to U.S. companies that have been forced to reveal secrets about their intellectual property in return for the right to do business in China.
The Journal’s sources says details of the sanctions are still being worked out. The underlying strategy is to impose restrictions on Chinese businesses similar to those faced by U.S. companies trying to do business in China.
