CEO Martin Winterkorn says Volkswagen AG will offer 14 electric or hybrid models by 2014 and could expand that lineup to 40 models if demand warrants.

He says the group will add electrified powertrains to vehicles in all classes in a bid to make VW the industry leader in electric mobility by 2018.

The company is using this week's Frankfurt auto show to present production versions of its Audi A3 e-tron plug-in hybrid, Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrid plug-in and all-electric iterations of the VW Up! city car and Golf five-door hatch.
