Volkswagen AG will launch its first all-electric vehicle in China this autumn under the SOL brand it created with new joint-venture partner Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group.
The E20X will offer self-parking capabilities, a surround-view camera, “smart” charging and a high level of connectivity, according to the German carmaker.
JAC Volkswagen was formed in 2016 as a 50:50 partnership to build electric vehicles exclusively. The 5.1 billion-yuan ($805 million) venture, which is headquartered in JAC’s hometown of Hefei, has capacity to make 100,000 EVs per year.
VW says it will expand production of electrified vehicles in China to at least six plants by 2021. That’s when the company will begin marketing EVs there under its own brands.
