Volkswagen AG says it is talking with other carmakers about sharing key technologies for premium electric vehicles in hopes of cutting development and production costs.
Audi product development chief Ulrich Widmann tells reporters there is “definite interest” among unspecified other manufacturers about using the EV-specific “PPE” chassis developed for Audi and Porsche models.
VW Group also has been touting its mainstream MEB electric-car platform, which the company expects will carry 27 of its high-volume EV models by 2023, to other manufacturers.
In July Ford Motor Co. agreed to develop electric vehicles using the MEB chassis. The first such program will be a mass-market model in 2023 for the European market.
