Volkswagen AG says its 2017 e-Golf electric vehicle will generate 134 hp and 214 lb-ft of torque, up 16% and 8%, respectively, compared with the outgoing model.
The higher-capacity electric motors will propel the e-Golf from zero to 62 mph in 9.6 seconds and a top speed of 93 mph. Both results are slight improvements from the 2016 model.
The carmaker previously announced the new EV would be fitted with a 35.8-kWh lithium-ion battery that boosts driving range 50% to a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency rating of 125 miles. The current e-Golf has a 24.2-kWh battery pack.
Other enhancements added this year include a standard driver assist package with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian monitoring technologies. A gesture-control infotainment system is optional.
A supplemental heat pump also is available. The system can help warm the cabin using ambient air and lost heat from the power unit components, which VW says reduces electrical consumption and improves overall efficiency.
