Volkswagen AG’s namesake brand has chosen industry veteran Saad Chehab to become the company’s chief marketing officer in the U.S., effective Aug. 19.
In conjunction with Chehab’s appointment, VW says Derrick Hatami and Jim Zabel have left the company. Hatami had been executive vice president for sales and marketing, while Zabel was senior vice president of VW brand marketing.

Chehab led Kia Motors Corp.’s U.S. marketing team for two years until he resigned in late June. He previously held executive positions at Ford and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.
At FCA, he spearheaded several high-profile Chrysler ad campaigns, including Super Bowl commercials featuring such celebrities as Eminem and Clint Eastwood. Following stints with FCA’s Lancia and Maserati brands, he left the carmaker in 2015 after clashing with former marketing chief Oliver Francois.
Saad started his career with an architectural firm, designing automotive dealerships. He has a bachelor's degree in architecture from University of Detroit Mercy.
