Volkswagen AG plans to price the production version of last year’s I.D. concept electric vehicle $7,000-$8,000 below Tesla Inc.’s upcoming $35,000 Model 3 electric car.
The new compact VW model is due by the end of the decade. By then VW expects to benefit from lower battery costs, according to Thomas Sedran, who’s in charge of group strategy.
Built on VW’s modular MEB platform, the I.D. will be powered by a single electric motor that generates 167 hp. The car’s driving range is estimated at 400-600 km (250-370 miles).
