Volvo Car Corp. says its plant in India will begin making a plug-in hybrid version of the carmaker’s XC90 midsize crossover in the second half of 2019.
Volvo announced last year that it aims to add hybrid versions of all models sold in India over the next few years. The company already imports the hybrid-powered XC90 (pictured).

Volvo’s plant in Bangalore, which opened in October 2017, currently builds conventionally powered XC60 and XC90 crossovers for the domestic market. Frump says the facility now accounts for about 60% of the cars its sells in India.
Volvo is a relative latecomer to India’s growing luxury car market. Last year the brand’s sales climbed 30% to 2,600 units.
