Volvo Car Corp. has selected Henrik Green to lead its product development activities, especially the company’s push into hybrid and all-electric models.
Green, 43, succeeds Peter Mertens, who was hired last month by Audi AG to be its board member in charge of technology development.
Green joined Volvo in 1996 and held several r&d positions in Sweden and China. He has held the position of senior vice president of sales and production planning and customer service since October. Volvo credits Green with helping to simplify its engine lineup by using only 3- and 4-cylinder designs.
In his new position, Green will lead a technology group with 6,500 employees. Volvo Cars is in the middle of replacing its entire model range with a lineup that uses only two platforms. The company also has announced it will debut its first all-electric vehicle within two years. By then it also plans to offer at least two hybrid versions of every model in its lineup.
