Volvo Car Corp. says it will offer a plug-in hybrid option for all its vehicles in coming years and launch its first all-electric model by 2019. The carmaker, which is owned by China’s Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Ltd., expects 10% of its global sales to come from electrified vehicles in two years.

The company currently offers a plug-in version of its XC90 crossover/SUV and is in the processing of launching a hybrid version of its S90 sedan.

The new push will start with plug-in hybrid versions of Volvo's 60 and 90 series models built on the company’s new scalable platform architecture. The platform, which also carries the X90, was designed to be compatible with electric drivetrains.

Smaller plug-in models will be added later. These vehicles will be based on the compact modular architecture, which Volvo is co-developing with Geely Automobile and is due to launch in 2017.

Volvo hasn’t revealed any details about the unnamed all-electric model. Media reports speculate it will be a midsize SUV or crossover and have a driving range of about 325 miles.
