Valeo Touts Performance and Cost of New Lidar System
Valeo SA plans to launch a new solid-state lidar (light detection and ranging) system in 2018 that it says is less expensive and better performing than current lidar.
Valeo SA plans to launch a new solid-state lidar (light detection and ranging) system in 2018 the company says is less expensive and better performing than current lidar.
The technology was developed with Quebec City’s LeddarTech Inc. It has a 100-m (328-ft) range and can detect a variety of moving and stationary objects at night, in fog and during heavy snowfall, according to the partners.
The system will have no mechanical moving parts and will be the least expensive lidar sensor with the best range-to-power ratio on the market, the partners claim. The technology can facilitate a variety of driver-assist features, including automatic emergency braking, autonomous driving, parking assist and right-turn assist for commercial vehicles.
The system features LeddarTech’s patented signal processing technology. Valeo has been working with LeddarTech since 2014.
