The probe covers a population of 1.7 million vehicles built during the 2006-2010 model years, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Bloomberg News reports a group that provides support for court cases about automotive defects claims owners have provided evidence showing their cars' brakes were applied while the unexpected surging occurred.
