Mitsubishi Motors Corp. plans to add the plug-in hybrid version of the Outlander crossover/SUV to its U.S. lineup in August. The vehicle already is available in Europe and some other overseas markets.

Mitsubishi will publicly unveil the U.S. Outlander PHEV in April at the New York auto show.

A pre-production model shown to journalists yesterday in Detroit was nearly identical to the latest traditionally powered Outlander, which bowed last summer. But the company says additional modifications are being made in Japan. Pricing and technical specifications will be announced later.
