Businesses in the U.S. added 312,000 jobs in December, the biggest monthly total since February, according to the Dept. of Labor.
On average, the U.S. economy added 220,000 jobs per month in 2018. Analysts say the pace was aided by last year’s big corporate tax cut, which encouraged employers to hire in spite of the turmoil caused by rising trade tensions.
The Labor Dept. says the U.S. unemployment rate rose to 3.9% from 3.7% in November. Average hourly wages grew 3% compared with December 2017.
