Toyota Motor Corp. is preparing to recall 1.03 million of its hybrid and plug-in hybrid cars worldwide to repair a wiring problem that could cause a fire, Reuters reports.

Toyota Motor Corp. is preparing to recall 1.03 million of its hybrid and plug-in hybrid cars worldwide to repair a wiring problem that could cause a fire, Reuters reports.
More than half the affected vehicle are in Japan, according to the company. It says the campaign will target hybrids built in Japan in 2015-2018, including the Prius and C-HR small crossover vehicle. About 219,000 vehicles are in Europe, and 217,000 are in North America.
The flaw involves a wiring harness that plugs into the hybrid power control module. Toyota says vibrations could wear through the wiring insulation and eventually short circuit. The company reports one case in Japan where the defect resulted in smoke but no fire.
