Toyota Motor Corp. has hired Vinay Shahani to head its integrated marketing effort in North America, effective June 5.

Shahani, 43, had been senior vice president of North American marketing for Volkswagen AG for the past three years. We will be succeeded there by Gregory Tebbutt, the unit’s senior director of marketing transformation, strategy and communications, until VW selects a permanent replacement.

Shahani joined VW in late 2013 after nearly 10 years with Nissan Motor Co. in North America. At VW he helped relaunch the brand in the wake of its diesel emission cheating scandal. Automotive News says he was considered a dealer-friendly voice at VW, a company frequently criticized for not listening to product and marketing advice from its local dealer network.
