Earlier campaigns have replaced the driver’s frontal airbag inflators. The new callback targets inflators used in passenger-side frontal airbag systems.
The new batch of vehicles were produced during the 2006-2011 model years. It includes certain Toyota brand Corolla small sedans, Matrix small hatchbacks, Yaris minicars, 4Runner SUVs, Sienna minivans and Scion xB cars. Also affected are Lexus ES and IS luxury sport sedans and GX large crossovers.
More than a dozen other carmakers are expected to announce new or expanded Takata recalls this week. The campaigns will add 35 million-40 million more vehicles to 29 million already being recalled in the U.S. to replace Takata inflators. The new recalls will be conducted in waves by 17 manufacturers between now and the end of 2019.
