Workers at Tesla Motors Inc.’s production plant in Freemont, Calif., are using Google Glass interactive eyewear to help improve manufacturing efficiency, according to Elecktrek magazine.
The tech magazine notes that Herndon, Va.-based APX Labs Inc., which adapts wearable technology for industrial applications, lists Tesla as one of its customers and has featured photos of Freemont workers outfitted with the Google eyewear.
Elecktrek says Tesla is using the new Google Glass Explorer Edition, which is waterproof and has higher performance specifications than the slow-selling consumer version. Tesla declined to comment.
Workers equipped with the technology could quickly access stored data while performing other tasks throughout the factory, Elecktrek notes. APX claims that wearable devices using its Skylight platform have helped customers boost overall productivity by as much as 25%.
