Tesla Inc. CEO Elon Musk says it “won’t be long” before the carmaker’s electric vehicles will be able to travel more than 400 miles on a charge.

Currently, the top-end versions of the Model S sedan and Model X crossover can cover about 370 miles in between charges. The vehicles are equipped with two electric motors and a 100-kWh lithium-ion battery. Upgrades also have been made to accommodate 200-kW chargers, which the company says can cut recharging times by 50%.

Speaking at this week’s annual shareholders meeting, Musk says Tesla also is on track to launch enhanced self-driving features through over-the-air software updates next year. A video of the meeting can be viewed HERE.
