Tesla Making Its Own Car Carriers to Ease Supply Bottlenecks

CEO Elon Musk says Tesla Inc. has begun building its own car carrier trailers to help solve its U.S. distribution problems.

He cites an “extreme” shortage of the carriers, which can tote nine Model 3 electric sedans at a time. He says the company’s biggest challenge has shifted from hiking Model 3 production to resolving delivery problems for the cars.

Tesla is now upgrading its logistics system, Musk adds. All Tesla vehicles sold in the U.S. come from the carmaker’s factory in Fremont, Calif.
