Tesla Inc. is discontinuing the cheapest and least powerful version of its Model S electric car a year after the model’s introduction.
Tesla will continue to offer the discontinued Model S “60” rear-drive sedan until April 16. The model retails for $71,300 and comes with a 60-kWh battery that can propel the car for 210 miles per charge. Owners may pay a fee at any time to update the car electronically to 75 kWh of capacity.
The base model after mid-April will be the rear-drive Model S “75,” which retails for $77,800 and provides 245 miles of range per charge. The all-wheel-drive version of the same car starts at $82,800.
