Tesla Drops Cheapest Versions of its S Sedan, X Crossover

Tesla Inc. says it is phasing out the lowest-priced editions of its Model S sedan and Model X crossover electric vehicles, effective today.
Both base models were powered by a 75 kWh battery. Now they will come with a 100 kWh unit. Base prices also will jump by $18,000 to $94,000 for the Model S and by $15,000 to $97,000 for the Model X.
The more powerful battery hikes the top speed of each model by 15 mph to 155 mph. The range of the sedan and crossover gain 76 miles (to 336 miles) and 58 miles (to 295 miles), respectively. Both models, impressively quick with the smaller battery, are slightly zippier in a sprint from zero to 60 mph.
Tesla’s more recently launched Model 3 sedan currently has a base price of $44,000 in the U.S.
