General Motors Co. tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration the ignition switch targeted in this month's recall of 3.4 million cars came from Chinese supplier Dalian Alps Electronics Co. Ltd.

The campaign will replace or modify the keys for those models but not the switch itself. The action involves certain Buick LaCrosse and Lucerne, Cadillac DeVille and DTS, and Chevrolet Impala and Monte Carlo cars.

GM's February recall of 2.6 million defective ignition switches covers a different device supplied by Delphi Automotive plc. Both switches, which were approved by the same GM engineer for production, exhibit the same flaw: sensitivity to being jarred out of the "run" position by the driver's knee or a bump in the road.
