Ford Motor Co. says its 2019 Transit Connect Wagon has a segment-best U.S. Environmental Protection Agency rating of 26 mpg (24 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway).
The vehicle is powered by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder gasoline direct-injection engine mated to an 8-speed transmission. The outgoing Connect Wagon with a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine and 6-speed automatic was rated at 22 mpg (19 city, 27 highway).
Ford plans to add an EcoBlue 1.5-liter diesel engine option to the Connect Wagon next year. The company expects that engine to have an EPA city rating of at least 30 mpg.
By comparison, Nissan’s NV200 Cargo Van and Ram ProMaster City are rated at 25 mpg and 24 mpg, respectively. General Motors dropped its Chevrolet Express small work van this summer.
Last year, Ford sold about 34,500 Transit Connects in the U.S., down 20% from 2016 but still nearly double the sales of the second-place NV200, Automotive News notes.RELATED CONTENT
