Motorcyclists in the U.S. are 3.5 times as likely to crash on their own than to be struck by another vehicle, according to Progressive Corp.
The Ohio-based insurer says it has processed far more single-vehicle claims for motorcycles than the combined number of claims involving stolen bikes, rear-end collisions or intersection crashes.
Data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration indicate that motorcyclists made up 14%, or 32,000, of all traffic fatalities in 2013. The proportion has climbed from 9% in 2004, according to the agency.
