South Korean carmaker Renault Samsung Motors Co. has suspended production at its factory in Busan for three days after months of partial strikes staged by its unionized workers, The Korea Herald reports.
Production is expected to resume on May 2, according to the newspaper. But it says the two sides remain deadlocked over key issues, raising fears of future confrontations and disruption.
Workers want shorter work hours and higher pay. Management claims a new round of work stoppages could jeopardize the plant’s ability to attract new business in 2020. The strikes already have cost the facility 40% of planned orders for Rogue crossover vehicles, which it assembles on consignment for Nissan Motor Co., the report says.
