The Renault SA-Nissan Motor Co. alliance says it saved €3.8 billion last year by sharing engineering, purchasing, manufacturing and human resources operations between the two companies, up from €2.9 billion in 2013.
The alliance combined those four main functions in 2014. Renault-Nissan aims to achieve €4.3 billion in annualized synergies by 2016.
The calculation is a combination of real cost reductions, cost avoidance and revenue increases. Each year's figure represents new synergies rather than a cumulative total, according to the alliance.
