Renault Cautiously Optimistic About Electric Sports Cars

Renault SA is working on hybrid and all-electric propulsion systems for future sports cars, Autocar reports.
But Patrice Ratti, who heads the company's Renaultsport unit, tells the magazine such applications aren't likely to hit the streets for 5-10 years. All of Renault's performance models currently are powered by traditional gasoline engines.
Ratti notes that Renault's involvement in the Formula E electric car motorsports series has accelerated its development efforts. He predicts electrics will triple or quadruple their driving range in coming years. But he cautions that cost reductions must come to make the technology viable for production sports cars.
